Labor & Industry For Education, Inc. (LIFE) has established the LIFE, INC. POOLED TRUST Services, a group of pooled Special Needs Trusts specially designed to help enhance quality of life for its disabled participants and to provide for their special needs. The LIFE, INC. POOLED TRUSTS are specifically designed trusts, which can provide additional benefits for its disabled participants (or “beneficiaries”) without affecting their eligibility for governmental benefits such as Medicaid, SSI, Food Stamps and Section 8 Housing. The Trust acts as a way for a sponsor (either the beneficiary themselves, a parent or guardian, or even a friend or other loved one) to provide for the special needs of a disabled beneficiary. The Special Needs Trust can be funded by anyone with an interest in providing for the care and needs of a disabled person without fear of jeopardizing the beneficiary’s government benefits.

LIFE is an OMRDD certified Medicaid Service Coordination (MSC) provider. MSC’s work together with developmentally disabled consumers and their families to ensure that our consumers are receiving the maximum services and programs that they are entitled to. MSC promotes concepts of choice, individualized services and supports and consumer satisfaction. LIFE also runs respite services out of its LifeHouse location.

LIFE operates a Head Start program in Brooklyn. Head Start is a federally funded pre-school program for children ages 2-4 years old. The program provides top quality educational, nutritional (including free lunch and healthy snacks/drinks) and health (free health screening) components to children in eligible families. The program, which LIFE has operated for the last 12 years, is located at 671 Louisiana Avenue, Brooklyn.
